mom coping with broken arm

Mom is coping as best she can with a broken right arm. She has it in a sling and is on pain killers because the pain is pretty bad. She can usually feed herself okay, even with utensils, but really needs encouragement without the use of the right arm.  As you can see, I could not get her to smile or really say much this day.  But a couple days before this, as I sat down next to her, she did recognize me, smiled and called me her daughter.

She does eat pretty well. She had fried chicken with gravy a few days before this that she ate okay, and today she had a grilled cheese sandwich with potato chips and a tomato salad. She tried several times to eat on her own, and did okay with the chips and sandwich. Ella brought Fig Newtons, and she ate one no problem. When I am there, I try to keep her hydrated with as much liquids as possible.

Here she had finished lunch and was just fidgeting with her napkin and the rose on the table.  Even heavily medicated she is still as active as she can be.

They were playing holiday music in the background. It was a nice warm day, and most of the residents were pretty calm. Prior to this moment, mom was talking a bit with the lady across from her.
